WALYUNGA NATIONAL PARK

Public BBQ

Walyunga National Park's picnic area offers one of Perth's most rewarding barbecue experiences, where the Avon Valley unfolds before you like nature's own amphitheatre. The four spotless gas barbecues sit perfectly positioned near the flowing river, providing front-row seats to paddlers navigating the rapids below. What strikes you immediately is the thoughtful layout - ample parking, well-maintained picnic tables, and clean toilets all within easy reach. The setting transforms dramatically after rainfall, when the valley bursts into emerald green and the river runs strong. Between April and October, this becomes a sanctuary of cool breezes and abundant birdlife, with kangaroos often making surprise appearances. The location serves as a gateway to five walking trails, including the challenging 6.3km King Fisher Trail for the ambitious. A word of caution: bring insect repellent, as the flies can be rather sociable.
